Also remember how like 2 years ago people complaining about the art featured on the front page was met with the reasoning "It's just an attempt to expose different art and different tastes!" ?
Now I log on and that "different art" is almost exactly 20% (terribly articulated) brony-crud, 40% anime/manga styled work that ONLY features GIRLS WITH IMPOSSIBLY LARGES BREASTS IN YOUR FACE (oh yeah, like those artists don't have an "agenda" on that any more) (so we're at 60% so far, yes?) 15% fan-art in various forms (mostly nothing more than messy sketches), 5% tutorials/WIP/resources, and 19% digital art (cartoons, conceptual, manipulation) and the remaining 1% is dedicated to...... AMATURE PHOTOGRAPHY and if you're lucky ONE traditional artwork!
Yes, this is actual statistics I took the time to take the percentages from stacking up the last 5 days of "WHAT'S HOT" on the front page!
I'm sorry, how is that actual variety?
Where are all the professional artists works any more? You know, the ones who actually make a living out of it?
Where is Fine Art represented by this?
3-D animation - or animation in general?
Genuine photography (not just stock/resource!)?
Paintings??? I have not seen a true painting in a long time?!
LITERATURE!?????? Poetry and prose! Which this website used to genuinely represent?
How come such "recreational" art is so exposed, whereas other art is not?
Is this not meant to be a website where artists could base themselves PROFESSIONALLY for ALL MEDIUMS??
Do people not understand how driven away artists must be?
Not to mention I read a legitimate article of recent that actually WARNED artists of clients who "find you through dA" because apparently that now insinuates "they don't take you seriously because deviantArt no longer comes across as a serious platform for the exposure of artists".
I look back on my art I have posted here and I am fully aware of how amature I was artistically from the age of 13; and I'm now taking in serious commissions for paintings/drawings/illustrations, working on my own gallery, I am the editor of a magazine and graphic designer for two clubs, and am currently hired as the illustrator of an Australian children's book.... "TheDragonMystic" was my platform to share my practice and developments over the years - as childish as it seems now (I mean it was my childhood!) - but not only that this was the account that gave me access to the MILLIONS of artists who would daily inspire me, whether I found them on the front page/through DD's/or genuinely browsing. I log on and almost always cringe at the front page.
Also llamas and "Thank Yous" don't seem to be a thing as much as they used to be? In the last two weeks, I've favourited over 800-1000 works - and have only received, like, 5 "Thanks" since then? They used to be one of the grounding foundations for installing community spirit and attitude - that unless your art received hundreds of faves daily you would take your time to thank people? It's kind of like facebook - you just "expect" to receive "likes" these days, whereas back in 2009 you'd be posting statuses like it was nobody's business and get no likes and nobody cared!
I don't know. I'm having a little vent here. I don't really post anything so may as well post something! (To the .... 50 or so odd people who haven't "unwatched" me over the years?)... I am going to post any new art on my other dA pages, if I get around to it. TheDragonMystic has done her time
